The UCSB Middle East Ensemble presents its formal Fall concert on Saturday, Dec. 2nd, at 7:30 pm in the Music Department’s Lotte Lehmann Concert Hall, with special guest dancers, DeVilla and Aubre Hill. Aubre will also bring her dance company, Qabila. The dances will be set to music by Umm Kulthum, Warda, and a suite of Upper Egyptian (sa`idi) folk melodies.
The ensemble will also present songs by the renowned divas Googosh (Persian, featuring Javid John Mosadeghi, vocalist) and Roza Eskenazi (Greek, featuring Alexis Crawshaw, vocalist), as well as a set of Armenian songs (featuring Steven Thomson, vocalist). Alexandra King will also bring her dancers to perform a dance, set to one of Muhammad ‘Abd al-Wahhab’s most famous instrumental compositions.
